What You Need To Know About Childhood Obesity
Professionals and researchers have been studying this trend for about three decades. Young kids, pre-teens and even teenagers have been slowly and surely gaining more weight and there are severe health consequences to this. Countless studies and mountains of research have been conducted with regards to this problem over the last twenty years or so. One thing is for sure, obesity that happens in the early years is a serious risk factor for terrible diseases later in life. It is incredibly important that parents understand that this story is more involved than just this. Kids who are clinically obese are going to have to deal with health problems long before they become adults.
It seems that just about all physical areas of the human body are severely stressed by obesity. If we look at the respiratory system, children that are obese can have obstructive sleep apnea that can be potentially dangerous. Normal breathing is also something that can be affected by being obese.
A child or young adult can develop asthma from being overweight. If you have a problem with your normal breathing process, it may also be referred to as an exercise intolerance. Everyone has seen that obese people always seem to have trouble breathing. This is a natural response because the body is having to work harder. Your cardiovascular system is just going to get more stress on it because of this. Young girls who have gotten past puberty are also at risk for gender specific obesity-related issues. For example, obese girls and women often experience menstrual irregularities. This issue is caused by the interference of the female body’s ability to produce normal hormones. The larger effect is to cause all kinds of problems with the girl’s menstrual cycle. The obese condition can cause women to become predisposed to these kinds of problems. What is also commonly seen as a result of this is for the obese female to essentially become sterile if the interference is significant. Then of course there’s the question of what other problems can be caused due to the interference in hormone production. The human body needs normal hormone production and metabolism to function in a healthy and normal manner.
This goes hand in hand with the bullying and general ostracizing the kids encounter at school, it is almost a guarantee that obese children and teens are pretty much guaranteed to develop social disorders. Another term people use is “social disabilities” which come with a high degree of high levels of unhappiness, depression, etc. A natural result from this is an exceedingly high stress level which is widely recognized as having unhealthy psychological and physical problems. Some obese kids deal with this by becoming bullies. What, obviously, is happening here is that the behavior is a sign of the anger that has more than likely accumulated from being bullied themselves.
So that these children start to lose weight, we think that they should have an emergency plan of action. We do realize that every situation for these children is different. This situation has eluded being reversed so far, but it is very serious.
